Screen Translator ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
1. Personal Information (When You Sign In)
When you choose to sign in with Google, we collect:
- Email address: Used for account identification
- Display name: Shown in your account profile
- Profile picture (if available): Displayed in your account
Purpose: Authentication, account management, and premium feature access.
2. Screen Capture Data
The app captures screenshots of your device screen to perform translation:
- Screen images: Temporarily captured when you tap the floating bubble
- Text content: Extracted from screenshots using OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
Important:
- Screenshots are processed locally on your device
- Screenshots are NOT stored permanently
- Screenshots are NOT uploaded to our servers
- Screenshots are deleted immediately after translation
- We have NO access to your screen captures
3. Translation Data
Free Tier (Offline Translation)
- Text extracted from screenshots is translated locally on your device
- Uses Google ML Kit Translation (on-device)
- NO data is sent to external servers
- Translation happens completely offline
Premium Tier (Online Translation)
If you purchase credits and use premium translation:
- Extracted text is sent to our backend API for translation
- Text is processed and immediately deleted after translation
- We do NOT store the content of your translations
- Translation requests are logged for billing purposes only (timestamp, credit usage, language pair)
4. Usage Data
We collect minimal usage data:
- Language preferences: Source and target languages you select
- Floating bubble position: Saved locally to remember your preferred position
- Purchase history: Google Play handles payment; we only receive purchase confirmation
5. Language Pack Downloads
- When you download language packs for offline translation, they are stored locally on your device
- We track which language packs are downloaded (stored locally)
- No personal information is associated with language pack downloads
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
1. Firebase (Google)
- Purpose: Authentication, user management
- Data collected: Email, name, user ID
2. Google ML Kit
- Purpose: Offline OCR and translation
- Data collected: None (processes locally on device)
3. Google Play Billing
- Purpose: In-app purchases
- Data collected: Purchase information (handled by Google)
4. Google Cloud Translation API (Premium Tier Only)
- Purpose: High-quality translation for premium users
- Data collected: Text to be translated (not stored)
Your Rights and Choices
Access and Control
- View account info: Check your email and name in the Account screen
- Sign out: Remove authentication from the device
- Delete account: Contact us to delete your account and associated data
Data Deletion
- Uninstall the app: Removes all local data from your device
- Clear app data: Android Settings → Apps → Screen Translator → Clear Data
- Delete account: Email us to request account deletion
Opt-Out Options
- Don't sign in: Use free offline translation without creating an account
- Disable premium: Use only offline translation (no data sent to servers)
- Revoke permissions: Remove screen capture or overlay permissions in Android settings
Children's Privacy
Screen Translator is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
